Author Guidelines

1. General Requirements

  • Originality: Manuscripts submitted to JOSLEM must be original work, not previously published, and not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.

  • Language: Articles must be written in clear, grammatical English. Authors are strongly encouraged to use professional proofreading services or tools (e.g., Grammarly) before submission.

  • Length: The manuscript should be between 4,000 to 7,000 words, including references, tables, and figures.

  • File Format: The manuscript must be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).

  • Template: Authors must prepare their manuscripts using the official JOSLEM Article Template. Submissions not adhering to the template format will be returned to authors without review.

2. Structure of the Manuscript The manuscript should follow the standard IMRAD structure (Introduction, Method, Results and Discussion), organized as follows:

  • Title: The title should be concise, informative, and clearly reflect the content of the article. Avoid abbreviations and formulas. (Max. 15 words).

  • Author(s) Information: Full name(s) of the author(s) without titles, affiliation(s), and the email address of the corresponding author.

  • Abstract: A concise summary of 150–250 words. It must be unstructured (one paragraph) and include:

    • Purpose: The main objective of the study.

    • Method: Brief description of the research design, participants, or development model used (e.g., ADDIE, 4D).

    • Results: The main findings or product specifications.

    • Conclusion: The implication of the study.

  • Keywords: 3–5 relevant keywords separated by semicolons (;).

3. Content Guidelines

  • Introduction:

    • Provide background information and the context of the study.

    • State the research gap clearly by reviewing relevant and recent literature (last 5-10 years).

    • Explain the novelty of the research or the developed media.

    • State the specific objective of the study at the end of the section.

  • Method:

    • For Research Articles: Describe the research design, population and sample, instruments, data collection procedures, and data analysis techniques clearly so that the study can be replicated.

    • For R&D (Development) Articles: Explicitly state the development model used (e.g., ADDIE, Borg & Gall, 4D, PPE). Describe the stages of development, validation processes (media experts, material experts), and practicality tests.

  • Results and Discussion:

    • Results: Present the data clearly using tables, figures, or charts. Do not repeat data found in tables/figures in the text; instead, interpret the main trends. For R&D, display the product design/prototype results.

    • Discussion: Analyze the findings critically. Compare your results with previous studies mentioned in the Introduction. Explain why the results occurred and their implications for educational technology. Do not simply rewrite the results.

  • Conclusion:

    • Summarize the main findings based on the research objectives.

    • Provide recommendations for future research or practical implementation.

    • Avoid introducing new data or references in this section.

4. Tables and Figures

  • Tables: Must be editable (not images), numbered consecutively (Table 1, Table 2), and have a title placed above the table.

  • Figures: High resolution (min. 300 dpi), numbered consecutively (Figure 1, Figure 2), and have a caption placed below the figure.

  • Ensure all tables and figures are cited in the main text (e.g., "As shown in Table 1...").

5. References

  • Citation Style: JOSLEM strictly follows the APA Style 7th Edition (American Psychological Association).

  • Reference Manager: Authors are required to use reference management software such as MendeleyZotero, or EndNote.

  • Currency: At least 80% of references must be from primary sources (journal articles/proceedings) published within the last 5-10 years.

  • Self-Citation: Limit self-citation to a maximum of 20% to ensure a balanced literature review.

  • Example of APA 7th Style:
